what are the chances that one could receive 2 DOA motherboards? has anyone had problems with an asus A7V8X-MX. got 2 different boards and neither of them would power on...and i tested all the components in my own machine and they all worked...any ideas?

Never had the problem with Asus. But my personal best was 4 in a row.
Did it come with a CMOS clear jumper set. Some M/Bs now come that way and require you to switch it before it works.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

the cmos jumper wasn't in the clear position. i checked it. i even tried clearing it on both and still nothing...have any experiences with that board in particular?

If it's a percentage you are looking for I would say less than 10% chance of both being DOA
Alarm bells would be ringing and the finger of suspician would be starting to point elsewhere.
PSU, CPU, Faulty addon card etc

But hey! as edfair pointed out, anything can happen and it probably will.

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Yeah my friend could't get a brand new 2500+ barton to run on his ASUS A7V333. I've never seen anything good come out of ASUS. But then again I've only seen a handful so don't quote me on it.

the 2500+ barton is what i couldn't get to run on it. it worked in my machine though. i couldn't get my 2000+ to work on it either...
