Hi all,

I got a VisionTek GF2 GTS 64MB video card and all of a sudden today when i got home i noticed a strange sound coming from my computer. When i opened it up i found it was coming from my video card. The sound is like the fan is grinding into something but i can't see anything obstructing the fan. When i stop the fan with my finger the noise stops. Is this a known defect in the card??

Sounds as if the bearing in the fan has died, you will need to replace the fan asap and I would advise that you do not use the system until you do. If the fan dies completely, as it will shortly, your video may overheat and damage itself.

I was gonna say it was just dust because when i took out the card there was a big lump of dust that came out of the fan. But when i turned on the computer again the fan was barely moving so i guess it did die... but the video card is only 3 months old ?!?!(i bought it Oct 1, 2001) is that even possible??

Hey can anyone suggest a new/good quality fan i can buy for my video card?

If the video card is only 3 months old, surely you can take it back for exchange under warranty?

If you have no joy taking it back ie: U brought it from a computer fair etc then a thermaltake Blue orb GPU set will replace your excisting fan/heatsink and do a better job of cooling in the process! PS they also look cOOl! Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!
