My database appears to be screwed up.
I can't run it, I get 'Error accessing file, network connection may have been lost'.
I can't compact/repair it, I get the same message.
If I open it in shift-key mode, I can't compile it, get same message.
I can't copy a report to a new report, I get 'Name conflicts with existing project or object reference' even though there is no such conflict.
I tried creating a new database and importing all existing objects - get same errors.
I tried compacting with Jetcomp, get same errors.

Does anyone know the answer? This is a very urgent project and I'm already behind schedule.

Weird is right! Have you tried exporting the objects to another database?

If it's not on a network, it is most probably corruption. The usual advice, it seems you've alredy tried (also FancyPrairie's suggestion?). You do have a recent backup, don't you?

Try the /decompile option, for detailed instructions, see Decompile or how to reduce Microsoft Access MDB/MDE size and decrease start-up times, or if it's a slight chance you can get some code running, you may try some the methods described here thread705-834817 and in the referenced thread. Else I think you're left with the alternatives here faq705-4683.

The problem seems to be related to my reports. There is one report that I can open but cannot save. I get no error message, it just wont save. I tried running the documenter and it encountered errors on several reports. After the documenter ran, some of the reports I tried to copy but could not ('Name conflicts with existing object' message) appeared in my reports listing. However, when I closed the database and re-opened it the reports disappeared again. Buy Access is screwy. I'm using Access 2000. Anyone got any ideas how to fix this mess?

I solved the problem. Isolated it to one corrupted report.
Had to import all objects to a new database minus this one report. Had to recreate report from scratch. I suspect this happened when I was telecommuting via VPN yesterday. There were a number of digital cable glitches although I'm not sure how this would affect anything over a VPN connection.

Oh no, ZABADAK, don't tell me that! I'm using a VPN connection for the first time tomorrow, and I already have my doubts!

Compact and repair often and take a backup immediately after. I'm now taking 2 backups per day.
