I've got a "work at home" server running 2000. I got one static ip. I'm trying to use the server for both the DNS name server, and the iis.

On networksolutions I entered the primary dns as ns1.sitename.com, with my one ip. So I renamed my server NS1. And set up a zone website.com.

But doesn't work. does get my web page, as well as address.

I'm using a PIX 506 firewall, but according to the helpful cisco board here, since my dns server is inside the firewall, this shouldn't be a problem.

The secondary dns is kind of bogus, it doesn't have my dns entry in it. It's not really possible to ask my provider to use their name servers.

nslookup on my server gives an entry for website.com, but not ns1.website.com. Just to make me more confused, I have a different domain name then the website name, so
nslookup ns1.domain.website.com does work.

Thanks!

Well, I got the name of my server right. NSLOOKUP ns1.website.com works.

On a seperate internet connection works, but website.com doesn't. Help!

Installed DNS on the server? In that case, set the primary dns server as the normal server name, not ns1 unless that is the server name.

then nslookup servername.website.com will work as will

I can't change the primary dns server name at network.solutions.com, since it has my ip at ns1.website.com.

I can't get networksolutions to see my dns. It says ? server running ??.

Any ideas?
