Greetings,

I created a web site name UPK with local path e:\upk-fs\am and port 8080 (since another web site uses port 80.) However, when accessing with (or I got page cannot be displayed.

Is this not the right thing to do to create new web site? What is the difference between creating web site and creating a virtual directory?

Thank you very much in advance.

In the property of the web site, under WebSite Tab/Advanced, there's Host header value, we removed this and it worked. Can anyone explain what the Host Header Value is for?

Thank you in advance.

Hi, host header are used if you want to have 2 or more sites on the same IP and the same port.

IIS will make the difference between the sites with the host header.

If you enter the IP address, the site who have the IP/Port and no host header will be displayed (default web site has this for example).

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

Jeff

Thank you Jeff. But I have used port 8080 on this web site and the other web site is port 80. So it should be unique with or without the host header. But why it's not working with the host header. It shouldn't make any difference, correct?

You shouldn't need the /UPK - just the servername:port should do it.

Using host headers, you could then drop the :port and use servername/webname.

To further clarify: using the servername:port/webname notation in the address is actually telling the server to look for webname under the web running at servername:port. In your case this would equate to trying to find the website /UPK/UPK.

Using just the servername:port should be directed to your base UPK web.

Similarly, using servername/UPK should get you to the base UPK web.

But servername:port/UPK is trying to find a web named UPK under the base UPK web.
