Web Site Language Translation

Has anyone been involved in setting up a web site with multiple languages? I am interested in how it was accomplished and what software people recommend.

You could just give the choice between languages in your index, then you`ll just have to make your pages in the language you need.

ie. if english is selected url will be page1_eng.html
if french is selected url will be page1_fr.html
and so on...
