Here is the problem: after I entered my web addresses, say, if I shut down the computer then won't be recalled from the dropdown list.

I think there must be a switch to turn the recall feature back. Any idea?

Thanks

Whats your browsing history set to? Never etc

What is the setting in Tools \ Internet Options menu, and then click on the Advanced tab.
Is "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed". checked?

Are you using any third party history cleaner like CCleaner?

The browsing history is set to "automatic".

"Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" is *not* checked.

No, I don't use any history cleaner tools, at least I didn't install any such tools.

See IE/ Tools/ Internet Options/ Browsing History/ Settings, on the property page, "Temporary Internet Files and History Settings", if you look down at the bottom of that page there is the counter of how many days "History" is retained for.

I don't think it is a history issue: from Linney's check, I found 20-day history as the default value. It should be a display issue: when I manually type in then IE remembers as one of entered links in the dropdown list.

Try this:

With IE closed, export this registry key to your desktop for backup if needed:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

Once exported, delete the key. Then open IE & see if it gets recreated. If it doesn't get automatically get recreated (even after a reboot) restore the registry key that you previously saved.

Isn't this an AutoComplete issue?

From within Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options (or Control Panel, Internet Options), Content tab, AutoComplete section Settings button, ensure Web addresses is checked in the Use AutoComplete for section.

Smah's trick works: after deletion, the reg gets automatically recreated and IE seems now can remember the typed URL's.

Thanks

Glad it worked - my suspicion is that the key was in some way corrupt or had incorrect permissions. Another possibility is that the numbering of the individulal vaules got out of sync - strange things happen when the values are not consecutive.
