Whenever I have tried taking a moving picture of a screen with a webcam, it has flickered and been at a very low resolution, certainly not able to read the screen contents clearly. My preference would be to run a VNC server on the machine, your friend can then connect to it with the VNC client over any TCP/IP network. That is, if the firewall permits access.

I actually use VNC for this same setup and it works great.
