Want to exclude all MS Exchange Deleted Items folders

I am trying to exclude all users’ MS Exchange Deleted Items folders from the selections list.

tells how to do so, as follows:

“You can easily exclude specific folders and subfolders from the backups by using the ** wildcard in the file selection path on the Advanced File Selection dialog box when making backup selections.

For example, to exclude all mail in the Deleted Items folder, type: \**\Deleted Items\*.

Using Veritas 10.0 Advanced button to edit the list, and browsing the path to the Exchange Mailboxes, then adding \**\Deleted Items\* to the path, I end up with something that looks like this:

\\servername\\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes[]**[]Deleted Items[]*.* /SUBDIR /EXCLUDE

Each place where I put [] above, there actually a single tiny black rectangle.

It looks like it ought to work in the way the bulletin suggests, but the users’ deleted items folders continue to be backed up.

Any ideas on how to exclude MS Exchange Deleted Items folders from back up would be most welcome.

If you didn't do brick level backups, then you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Backup the IS for disaster recovery, use Deleted Items Retention to allow item recovery by the users.

It is a business requirement to do the brick level backups.

So if anyone knows of a way to exclude everyone's deleted items I would like to try it.

It sounds like you are selecting something first and then trying to add excludes

This is totally brilliant. Thank you so much.

Not only did it decrease my backup size by 4GB, but it excluded a corrupt email message in someone’s delete items folder that was causing backups to report a failure.

It looks to me like the syntax (Path: \\*\*\*\*\Deleted Items ) starts at the root of everything and with a little tweak it could be used to exclude all music files as well (Path: \\*\*\** File: *.mp3 )

You mean it is your business' requirement to do brick level backups...as in general brick level backups are totally unnecessary.
