Want calls to Rollover to another NUMBER

Hello,

This may be similar to some other request, however, I can't seem to find any.

We have a situation where one of our executives from another branch is always on the line.

They want his number to roll-over to our switchboard whenever he's on the lind, therefore, a real person will be able to answer all of his calls coming to that extension.

We were told to call our local phone company to get this set up. We called them, they supposedly set up something to where the number would roll-over to the main number if he's on the line.

Question, shouldn't we have been able to set this up without getting the phone company involved?

If so, isn't it a pretty simple procedure?

Also, what's the best way to tell someone to do this? I am not at that location, and it's kind of hard to explain to them at times when I am not physically there.

Any suggestions?

Is this with a Definity? If so, the local telco is not involved.

More info?

Yes, it's Definity. I didn't think that they were involved. Our other group called me to ask me to set up the main number roll-over. I had no idea why, I just do what I am told. So basically what they want to do is something that could have been done right through our own system?

If the executive is on a 'private line', then local telco could be involved. If his extension is just a DID, then you shouldn't need telco.

Does the executive want the calls to route anytime he doesn't answer the call? If so, it's easy to do within the Definity (using coverage paths). If they only want the calls to route when they are on the phone, I still think this can be done within definity, but I'm not 100% sure on how to do it (I'm guessing it's still a coverage path issue).

Coverage path issue sounds right, and this is what I told him, but it's hard to explain this to them 50 miles from there.

And to answer the question, yes, he only wants this to happen when he's on the line.

Yes still coverage path, under coverage criteria of the defined path set active to y. Even if the execs number was a PCOL (private line) you can still define a coverage path for it.

'add cov p n' define coverage criteria, I would probably leave the default and let it ring a couple of times at the desk whether dude was there or not. It would also alert him
of a second call and let him get it if he had the opportunity. Assuming exec has digital set.

'cha st xxx' if it's a DID and assign the coverage path (xxx is assigned station number).

'cha per x' if it's a PCOL and not a DID and assign the coverage path (x is assigned PCOL).

If it's an independant line then current construction is right but why do you have an independant line installed when you have an advanced call processing system?

I would probably go ahead and get the thing done through programming because most times the LEC will charge you for the forwarding.

You say the exec is at a different branch and they want the calls picked up at your location.
What type system is at the branch where he is located?
Is there a link from that system to yours?

If they don't have a definity, it may be hard to get the correct answer. If by chance he has a dedicated line to his phone, the easiest thing might be to just have the telco put call forward if busy on the line, and use your main number for the forward to.

This is exactly what I ended up doing yesterday. Thanks alot for all the info.

CASE Closed :)
