I have a pc that cannot connect to the network because under devce manager under network adapters there is an ! next to WAN MINIPORT IP. Do I need to have this? I cannot remove it can I manually remove it in the registry? I can ping the servers and internet but cannot connect. The other NIC is running fine but I think this adapter is the cause and I cannot update the drivers because I do not know what driver to load. Any information would be great.

if you can ping the server/internet you have a tcp/ip confict check that you have the correct workgroup name and have a unique ip address and that the network you are trying to connect to has the correct permissions set ie windows 98/95 have the set level security and have the correct passwords for the hardware you are trying to access, as for the mini port, has the pc got this on the mother board or is it an extra device, as for removing it, thats simple in device manager, click on the option from the properties box, disable in this hardware profile.
any further advice shout,
ps operating system / pc detail may have help further.

acutally the miniport driver should not make the difference.
you can disable the device though cant you? they are ususally associated with some type of software (aol, dsl), so find out which software installed it.Or go into the bios to disable it. Why cant you uninstall it?
Let us know... Let everything that have breath praise the Lord.

This is a Laptop running 2000 and when I try to remove it says that you cannot delete windows needs device to run properly. It does not have any extra devices nor does it have AOL. We are running DHCP and it was not able to see the network. When I put a static IP address I was then able to Ping the servers.

Ok
from the beginning then.. Is this a peer or sever client network? Let everything that have breath praise the Lord.

Server Client running Novell 5 and NT
