Guys, can you please show me how to remove the McAfee Firewall Network Filter Miniport from the device manager under Network adapters? I have tried editing the registry but it won't go. This problem is seen on the system information's problem devices after I removed the evaluation copy of McAfee ver 7.

Thanks for any help.

What happens when you try to uninstall it from device manager - This device can not be removed...?

That's right, smah. Everytime I tried to uninstall, it's saying failed to uninstall as it is required by the system to start up. On the registry, it is under LEGACY.

I had a similar problem once. I'll see if I can find the details, but as an overview:

There may be multiple entries in the registry that need to be removed. Search through a few times using different search words to make sure you get everything - like 'wan miniport', 'network filter' and 'mcafee'. Be very careful not to delete something you actually need - as always backup the registry before you start. Anyway, once you're done with the registry don't reboot. Go back to Device Manager and uninstall it. When you have deleted the right combination of registry entries, you will be able to remove it from DM. If you reboot before removing it from DM, the registry entries will be recreated.

Thanks, smah. I have already done what you advised and I have deleted all instances of McAfee and Network Associates on the registry but those under LEGACY are very stubborn they cannot be deleted. I also have reinstalled and deinstalled McAfee v7 still no luck. Since I got this problem I cannot connect to my ISP.

This is just a vague guess.

Is anything from McAfee listed in your ISP provider/ Properties/ Networking?
