hello, I'm running windows XP Pro. My internet has been down for almost a month now. I am not sure why, but I now have a new device called a WAN Miniport (IP). I still am unsure of truely what it is. It has an exclamation mark by it.

I have my computer hooked up to a network, with a cable connection.

I cannot uninstall it, even from safe mode. It says "This device is required to start up."

When I do any command with IPCONFIG /whatever... it will just come up "Microsoft IP CONFIGURATION"

I am soo lost, I have looked so much, can somebody please help me?

Do you use AOL? AOL installs WAN Miniport (WAN = wide area network). If you don't have AOL, or a VPN, then it should be safe to uninstall.

You might have to boot in safe mode, go to Control Panel>Network and under TCP/IP settings (write down all the settings so you don't lose them, uninstall TCP/IP, then don't reboot but then try to uninstall the miniport. Then reboot, reinstall TCP/IP, reboot and see what happens.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
