XP Pro is making me feel like an idiot. And for once I really cannot blame the OS, it is working flawlessly so far. Except for the fact that many, if not all, of the desktop wallpapers do not work, instead XP decides to set my wallpaper to a solid color (the one listed on the desktop tab). Now, I can occasionally get a wallpaper to work but eventually the background returns to a solid color. But when I lock the desktop I can ALWAYS see the selected wallpaper. Could this somehow be related to the fact that I use the remote desktop to connect to this PC once in a while? Anyone have any ideas?

Where are you loading the background pics from? Could there be security, network, or removable storage issues here?

I am loading them from my local hard drive. Many of them are "built in" with XP. I do have local admin access to this PC.

Something to check.

"The Prevent changing wallpaper Group Policy prevents users from changing the desktop wallpaper by using Display Properties."

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - Q327998
You Can Change Desktop Wallpaper Setting After Administrator Selects "Prevent Changing Wallpaper" Option in Group Policy.

I noticed the other nite after exiting a game the background color had migrated back to the previous one...as games reset their own resolution/refresh rates when they start...sometimes they don't put things back where they were...(like kids, wives):)
