Hey all,

We want to have all the computers have a standard background. We change the GPO so that Active Desktop is enabled, and specified an image. Then we modified the login script so that the file was copied to the computer. The image is not showing up. We have used both a .jpg and a .bmp version of the background. The GPO is being applied (access to the desktop tab was also removed in the GPO and is no longer accessible from the workstations), but we don't know why the image isn't showing up.

Any ideas would be helpful.

In the group policy ensure you have the User/AT/Desktop/Active Desktop settings:
Active Desktop Wallpaper - Enabled
Disable Active Desktop - Disabled

hope this helps...

If that does not work try putting the file on the server and redirect the desktop image there. This will ensure that the GPO is at least working.

I ran into this before. If Active Desktop was configured on the PC befroe your policy you will first need to disable Active Desktop on the PC. Then you can re-enable it using the settings posted above and it should work. Go with the BMP file format and make sure it has been copied to the Windows directory.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks for the helpful hints guys. I think Mark's idea was probably the correct one, (no empirical proof, it just feels right to me) and the problem seems to have fixed itself over the course of a couple of days.
