WAB file recovery - any tips?

When changing from one ISP to another, a customer managed to lose email and all email addresses in OE.

The WAB file is available, but can't be imported or opened/read by any tools I have, and efforts to re-create accounts to import have all failed.

Is there a tool out there that will open *any* WAB file (even if not on the original PC) and export it to a CSV or some usable format?

Does anyone know of a way to open/read or print out a WAB file - as a last resort at least the info wouldn't be lost.

Have you tried opening it with Wordpad, or another simple text editor?

WAB files are best opened with Outlook Express.
Not with wordpad/notepad which results in junk characters.

If .WAB file is not opening in OE...You might be missing a wab32.dll file in your machine. Reinstall outlook express and try importing again.

Also look for Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 182833 .

Checked all the OE files; did the reinstall already. OE will not import it - it just returns an "error occurred during the import process..." msg with no other info.

In TextPad (etc) it will open but is gibberish.

Is there a tool somewhere that will read *any* WAB?

Wish list... a tool that will convert *any* WAB into a CSV!

Did you try going to
Start - Programs - Accessories - Address Book
and did it open ur default .wab file.

Also find a search in hard disk for .wa~ file.
Rename it to a .wab and try import to see if it works..

I am not aware of any .wab - .csv tools directly.
If you come to know of one in near future let us know.
