My Windows 2003 server changed its licensing mode from Per User (I absolutely know this was how it was configured) to Per Device. I started getting pop-ups when logging in that my license would expire in xx days. I checked the TS config and it showed per device.

I have changed it back to Per user, but it seems to still be working off device cals. I read and checked the MS document Q8346541 and the registry setting is correct.

Any help would be appreciated.

Microsoft has built the front-end to the per user mode for Win2k3, but hasn't completed the backend. It currently does not decrement per device TS licenses. Until they release SP1, you cannot run out of TS licenses in the per user mode. As long as you have configured the registry to point to the license server, and have put the server in per user mode, you should be fine.

Oops, I meant to say, "currently does not decrement per user TS licenses.

You mentioned that the 2003 Term server has the registry setting in:
HKLM\System\CCS\Services\TermService\Parameters ...Reg_Sz "DefaultLicenceServer" = "TSLicenseServerNameX".

Were the licenses installed on your Windows 2003 TS License server in the per user mode? Any communication issues between the TS server and the license server?

It was installed in per user mode. The TS server and license server are one in the same. I haven't seen any error messages in the event log. Just to make matters more interesting, the license expiration pop-up on login has gone away (at least for now), but when I check the TS Licensing MMC, it still shows all the per user CALs as available. I ran across a thread on the Citrix site forums about this (message ID 172122).

Whoa...the message went away, eh? I'll remember this thread if my users start seeing the pop-up.
