For the past couple of weeks I've been getting W3828 Unable to find this media or a blank media error. No changes that I know of. First job runs fine on this tape.

I'm running Arcserve 2000 sp4 on Windows NT4 sp6.

Check your job settings on overwriting media, check which media name is mentioned in the destination view.
Your job is configured in a way that ARCserve requests a certain tape that is not present in the drive at the moment the job kicks off.

can be caused by corruption in the asmedia database and the database\r*.* files.

Okay, yesterday I checked to make sure it was appending to media "device 0" not a specific tape. It was already set that way. It is appending because another job runs before this one. I check to make sure that the job before it has not increased in size. It hasn't. I also made sure that compression was set. It wasn't so I set it.

I came in this morning and the job didn't finish, once again.

Here is the error:

Job ID........................ 2947
Workstation................... CITRIX
Source........................ \\CITRIX\M$
Target........................ 11, ID DD1F, Sequence #1
Session....................... 5
Start Time.................... 6/11/04 3:05 AM
W3828 Unable to find this media or a blank media. (MEDIA=11, SEQ=2)

The first tape runs full, you are asked to put in a second one (SEQ 2)
Are you using a single drive or an autoloeder or tape library??

regards

I'm using a single drive. However, my backup has not changed in size. I've even tried running compression on both jobs the first and this one...

You cannot use software compression when the hardware compression is enabled.
What type of media do you use, how much data is written to tape ??
