Hello ik hope some one can help me,

The tape is full and now he wants a blank or next media.
I have a problem, i do not have a next media or blank media, i do have a media that can be erased.

Can i change the tape and erase it and continue the job ??

or are there other solutions ?

You can add new media and name it the same as the other tapes - the backup job should then pick it up and carry on.
Not sure what kind of hardware you have but you may need to dismount first.

No he can not.

With only one tape drive that drive is tied up and so he can not format or erase another tape.

Also if the tape is formated the job will not use it since the tape ID will be different. For spanning you need either the original tape which would be the seq.# 2 tape from the last time the job ran or a blank tape. Blank tape means a tape that is not formated.

Custom jobs can be setup to overwrite any media. Rotation and GFS jobs use the media pool and ignore the media settings configured under options.

I have only 1 tape drive, i am running win2003 server

I can not erase or format a tape decause the tape drive is in use.
The only way that ik can do is restart the server, or some one have other ideas

thanks for your requests

Just cancel the job, and now that you know that the job takes two tapes you will always have the second tape ready. You might need to buy some more tapes. Also run a Count job with an include filter based off access date. It very well could be that you have a lot of data that has not been accessed in a long time and so can be migrated off to secondary storage.
