Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to stop the following message from appearing in the event log. I have just set up a win 2000 dc.

"this machine is a pdc of the domain at the root of the forest. configure to sync from external time source using net command."

Who or what address will the external source be?

cheers
jono

I've just dome this about a week or so ago, but cant remember how. I'll do some digging around.

The root domain PDC emulator is the basis for synchronizing the time throughout your entire Active Directory forest.

Because all machines in the forest will sync to the time on this machine, it needs to have accurate time. To get accurate time, you point it to a external time server.

To set an external time source, run this command from the DC with the error: 'net time /setsntp:name_of_time_server' where name_of_time_server is a known time server. Check out the following Q article for a list of servers. Just use one.

Thats it. You do not always have to specify an external time server. You can use your domain controller as a time server. The way I got rid of the error was by typing the following:

net time /setsntp:Grommit

In the above example my PDC server name is Grommit

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys
