W2K Server - Master Browser query 1

My setup:
W2k Server - all service applied
W2K Pro Workstation - all service applied
W98 Workstation (x4)- all service applied
iMac Workstation running Doubletalk
All the W98 W/s have "Browse Master" set to "No" - dunno how to disable this on the iMac - if indeed I need to.

Problem:
Occasionally I get an entry in the event log "The browser has forced an election on \Device\NetBT_tcpip_{loads.of.numbers} because a master browser was stopped."

Looking in "HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Browser/Parameters" I see that "MaintainServerList" is set to "Yes". I thought that this would have the effect of forcing the server to be the MB. There is another param: "IsDomainMaster" which is set to "FALSE", do I need to change this to stop the elections taking place?

I would suggest changing that to True, this should force the server to be the domain master browser.[noevil] Adrian Jordan

Adrian, thanks for your response. Any idea why it would be "False" even when the server is the only server on the domain?

You may want to verify that the workstations are set to false and don not maintain a browser list as well so that they won't try to become a browser. There should be at least one workstation/server per subnet that maintains a browser list that will report back to the PDC/DC. This will help with "Browser Wars"

Do you have browsing turned off in services on the w2k pro machines? Glen A. Johnson
