Howdy,

I have a network with both W2K Active Directory and NT 4.0 servers. The network runs in Mixed Mode. I have a server that is failing. The server was the Primary Domain controller in NT 4.0. I than upgraded it to W2K Active Directory. If I eliminate the two NT 4.0 backup domain servers, and promote the network to Native Mode, will I have a problem with my user's data base? Also, I have a seperate domain which runs NT 4.0 and I do not plan to upgrade this domain to W2K (It is a small domain). I plan to eliminate it eventually, though not now. Can I promote domain 1 to Native Mode while the second domain, domain 2, remains NT 4.0?

Please let me know and thanks,

Not sure how changing to Native mode is going to help your failing DC...but...there won't be any issues with the database. Mixed mode simply allows downlevel (NT4) servers to act as backup domain controllers. Going to native mode has no effect on member servers or workstations, nor does it affect domains that are not members of the Forest that will be changed.
