HI, I have a problem to which I cannot find a solution and was hoping someone could help:

Current setup: I have windows 2000 servers ,a PDC and BDC and another windows 2000 server which runs an accounting package and stores all the roaming profiles.

Problem on certain PC's, when I try to access the server which stores the profiles I get the following error message:
"Logon faliure:the target account name is incorrect". Even when I try to browse this server from the PDC i get the error message. It is a strange problem as from some PC's I can browse this server through explorer but from others I get the above error.
Thus some of our users cannot logon with their roaming frofiles because their computers cannot access this server.

Sometimes if I reboot that server it will fix the error from some of the PC's but then other PC's start showing the error.

Please can someone help as it is causing a big problem.

Examine your event logs, they should give you some more information as to what account is causing the problem.

Also, FYI, there are no PDC's and BDC's in a W2K environment, they're all DC's, or member servers.

This was the entry in event viewer: The redirector was unable to initialize security context or query context attributes.

Your situation sounds very much like its the computer accounts that are not synching correctly. I had a problem similar to this one. Try examining the computer account credentials. The logon failure may be an incorrectly synchronized computer password. There are articles and some tools available from MS to help troubleshoot computer account issues.
