We have about 6 W2K pro machines working on an NT Domain. All other machines on the Domain are 95 and a few NT 4.0's. Every now and again about 4 of the W2K machines cannot see the domain, we know this beacuse we use Hyena 'a domain admin tool' and this stops functioning. Also we cannot change are passwords ' this was tried as a test' All other W2K machines are fine and so are all other operating systems. Strange thing is the next day everything is OK. At the moment it has lasted 3 days so we need to find a solution.

Can you help???

Is there any chance your Win95 machines are using names or IP addresses that are also being used by the W2K machines?

I have also seen strange things like this when using DHCP. Some times the Win95 machines got IP addresses that were being used. I set aside a few IPs in DHCP then made my 95/98 machines static and my problems went away.

I have since found out why this was happening. The W2K machines on which it was happening were using DHCP and the DHCP server was giving out a peer to peer node type. We changed this to 0x8 Hybrid and everything is OK.

Thanks for your help all the same.
