I have a Sony DDS3 tape unit on an Altos G510 running W2k server. We are using (or trying to) the backup software provided in Windows. If I run the backup, then try to prepare a new tape, the preparation fails, saying"The requested resource is in use". This message comes from removeable storage when I go to Physical Locations/SonySTD9000/media/**tape name** and right click/prepare.
If I do not reboot the computer I do not get a backup.
If the backup batch does not finish, SQL does not restart, so my users are SOL until I get in and clear the job.

What is the solution??????

Thanks.

Windows backup stinks. If you have the budget for it, check out Veritas BackupExec or Computer Associates ArcServe. Each is less than $500 and is much easier to use, schedule with, etc. MUCH easier.

I can't help with your questions because I finally gave up on trying to get windows built-in backup to behave ;-)
