What are the licensing differences between W2000 Pro and W2000 Server? What are the key benefits of 2000 over Pro that this licensing difference correlates to?
Cheers --Pete.
w2k pro comes out of the box with a 10 concurrent user limit, and can not be added to. Server 2k comes out of the box with a 5 concurrent user limit, but you can add as many additional users as you are willing to buy licenses for.
there are other differences such as admin tools etc.
Concurrent connections would be the number of other computers connecting to the server at the same time.
Re-installed W2K which killed OFFICE 2K registration. Unfortunately the IT guys forgot to give me the Product ID for the Office 2K, but why do I have to setup Office again anyway? Office 2K Pro already exists on the PC but because (of my stupidity on not backing up the registry) teh newly installed W2K doesn't see it. And when I click on the Word EXE icon , it says I have to install Word. I don't get it
Shouldn't W2K look at the drive and see a valid legal installation and simply register it automatically in regedit?
Thanks
Thanks for the info on W2000 default and extended licensing. How do I check the current licensing for a system? How are licenses managed, checked and controlled? How do you check the current license (concurrent) usage? Is the license management software built-in?
Cheers --Pete.
In 2k server, there is a licenses icon within control panel. This is where you would check to see what you have, and also to add additional licenses. If you go over the limit, the server will return an error saying something to the effect of having reached the license limit, and that you need to add more.
What is the license icon "name"? There appears to be no licenses icon in the control panel on w2k pro. Is this because of the 10 user limit? Can I find the licensing info (concurrent user count) anywhere else?
Cheers --Pete.
