I am a newbie so any incorrectness in my posts is unintentional and I welcome advice.

We have recently installed Win Server 2003. We also turned on the VPN portion and have begun using the VPN to connect remotely. We basically then use the remote access provided by our IIS webserver to connect and take over our desktops. My IT guy (now fired and I am interviewing) probably configured something wrong, but basically it works sporadically. All users can successfully connect to the VPN fine. And then all users can access the internet fine. However, some users can connect to the local website and gain remote access and some users can not. For example the IT guy and another user can generally connect and gain access to their computers (however, sometimes they can not). I have been able to gain access before, but now not at all. I can access VPN fine...it is the local network that I have the problem with. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm. Could be a number of things. Once connected through VPN how are you connecting to the desktops? Are you using a RDP connection? Has remote desktop been enabled on the PC you are trying to connect to (assuming it's XP)?

I don't know what an RDP connection is. I just go to my website/remote and if prompts me for the Ip address and pword. I enter my desktop IP address (yes, XP Pro and it is turned on) and it doesn't connect...times out.

did you try tyo use the computer name instead of IP? if you have DHCP enabled the IP address can change

Yes, I have tried using the computer name. My main problem is that my VPN connects fine; however, I can then only access the internet and nothing on the intranet. My website is hosted locally. So I attempt to connect to my IIS server running remote desktop. I can not even get to this webserver while connected to VPN. I can access it fine when not connected to VPN.

It appears that the VPN just will not allow me to access anything on the intranet. Other users can and I have at one time, so I assume the VPN was configured properly. The only changes that I can think of that occurred since my successful attempts, are maybe windows updates... I have one user that seems to be more successful than others. She is running XP home (as am I)... Mind boggling to me.
