Hi all -

To date, I've been programming VPN phones to use a DID number as a single appearance, then bridging the user's office number onto the first three appearance buttons. This is chewing into my pool of available DIDs.

Is there a way to program the VPN phone extension to use a non-DID number just to log in?

i normal just use the user real extension number. They only use the VPN phone when they are not in the office, or they are remote users. But I wouldn't see why you couldn't use a non DID number, the system is not going to care, as long as the extension number you use is an active extension number.

Thanks David, but I just realized I was a bit unclear in my description. I have two types of VPN Phone users - those who work from a remote office such as at home and only have a VPN Phone, and those who have both a regular office phone and a VPN Phone, each having call appearances for the user's assigned DID. It's the latter type I was asking about.

In fact, I'm one of these myself - it makes working from home a lot easier than lugging your desk phone around with you, especially when on call.

I will try setting up a extension in a range I know has been used for internal testing (but doesn't have a matching DID) and see if it works. I will report my findings.

I have a VPN phone as well as an office desk phone. The VPN is setup with my normal extension.
I just log off the VPN phone when I am not at home. And when I need to use I log it in, and it takes over my normal extension. When I logged it off, my office phone will normal take it back. Now I have the same type of phone at both locations.
