Hi all,

Is there any way to access our Novell Netware 4.11 server from off-site via VPN? I know BorderManager won't support this version of netware.

We have a broadband connection with a BEFSR41 router/firewall. The outside computers will be Win xp pro and Win 98SE.

Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Has anyone found a solution to this issue. I am in the same situation. Thanks

Your problem is that you need to tunnel IPX, and it sounds like your using a client-site VPN. Routers can do this, but I don't know of VPN client software that can.

You could set up NetWare/IP. I experimented with it quite some time ago and it worked ok. At least then you would only need an IP connection to the server.

I don't think IPSec VPN will support IPX traffic. Netware 4.11 won't work with off-line files feature resident in W2K or WinXP either. Although there are several things I liked about Netware 4.11, there were beginning to be too many disadvantages to keep it around. We are currently migrating off of Netware 4.11 for some of those reasons.

GRE on the routers can encapsulate IPX traffic, but client VPN software can't as far as I know. The best solution would be to upgrade the server OS.

Dudes: two Novell solutions:
IPTunnel or IPRelay
One is a Lan driver, the other is an NLM.
Its allows you to encaps IPX over IP.
Its included in NW4.X
google IPTunnel or IPRELAY
