VPN connection changes my gateway

I have a VPN setup (PoPToP) at my workplace running on a RedHat Fedora Core 2 machine. Everything works fine except when I connect from my WinXP machine at home it changes the gateway on my computer and will not let me connect to the internet while I'm connected to the vpn. I know in Win98 you can unclick "use remote gateway as default" but I don't know where to change this setting in XP.
