I loaded Checkpoints SecureRemot to access VPN on my PC a year go. Everything was working fine until the weekend of 12/11 when our IT group made an update to the SecureRemote program. They can't explain what they updated. The ONLY change to my PC 3 days prior to 12/11 was an auto-download of "supposedly" critical updates from Microsoft. Has anyone heard of any recent critical updates from Microsoft for XP causing access conflicts with SecureRemote?
All other internet browsing working fine. We attempted to disable Norton and XP Firewall, no effect. The final conclusion of my IT support group was reformat the hard drive.
I'm looking for a less drastic solution.

Rather then re-formating the hard drive (which seems a bit extreme to me), why not just un-install Secure Remote and re-install the latest version for your firewall? I run Secure Remote and Secure Client on my laptop with XP Serice Pack 2 and all the latest updates with no problems at all.

Chris.

Thank you Chris.
We tried that. We took off Adaware completely, we removed SP2, we uninstalled and reinstalled Secure Remote about 5 times now. Each time after another removal of another suspected block point.
I kept telling the techs, it worked fine up until the weekend when they made the change, and the only "new" factor was the download of critical update packages. I even tried selectively deleting HotFixes one by one. Still no luck.

What version of Secure Remote and Firewall-1 are you running and what change did the techs make?

Chris.

You may want them to look at the desktop policy. Depending on how you have the rules for the desktop client, you could deny internet access while the VPN tunnel is established.

JeffFTN, what exactly is the problem that you are having?

Chris.

I have Build 132 for SecureRemote.
I sincerly appreciate your assistance. I went ahead today and reformatted the drive.
Whatever the problem, WAS, that has solved it for the moment. I was able to reinstall secure remote and now it has successfully connected to our site and updated and verified itself.
I do appreciate you telling me you have Service Pack 2 loaded and it's not a problem. When I begin re-loading updates , I'll probably reload SP2 as well.

The problem I was having was simply that VPN failed to connect to our server to perform update/verification.

JeffFTN,
In the future, do NOT reformat your drive. There is a much better to do this.

1) go to checkpoint website and go to the utilities section,
2) download CPClean utility,
3) run the CPclean utility. This will remove ALL Checkpoint software on your machine,
4) reboot the machine,
5) install Secureremote,
6) reboot the machine,
7) connect to the firewall.

this technique will save you a lot of time. Sometime uninstall is simply not good enough to remove checkpoint software from the machine.
