Hello,

When I put my diamond voodoo2 card in my pc, It is detected and i can install in normally. But when I reboot, windows says something about glide voodoo2 expected, none detected. But it is listed in my hardware list(this comp.-properties)

I tried a lot to make the card work, other PCI slot, etc. But one day I found out that if I pushed the voodoo2 card a littlebit downwards in its PCI slot, it suddenly was detected! I could play games normally with 3dfx acceleration.

I tried this on two different pc's, with the same results. So I know its the card itself that doesn't work properly. What can I do to find out where the problem is?? [sig][/sig]

Usually this problem is caused by the mounting bracket camming the card out when you tighten the screw down. Solution is to fully insert the card and see where the screw slot needs to be to hold the card in place, then pull the card and bend the bracket so the slot will match the screw position. And you may need to bend the mounting screw flange to allow the card to fully seat. I have had to break the flange totally off on several cards , then held them in place with a gem clip. Thanks edfair, but it seems that that won't work.
I removed the whole bracketthing where the screw was supposed to be in, and put the card in all kinds of positions in the slot. Up down left right. It just won't work!

Before this all, when I could use the card 'normally' by pushing it down a little, I had to push a little harder every time I used the card.

Any other suggestions? anyone?

Unless they use the bracket for signal ground. Other interference is guide tab on the other end of the bracket, not hitting the slot. Other question is of dimension tolerance on tab width into socket. Can you move the card to front or rear as it is sliding in. Normal tolerance is not enough for the trace to miss the socket contact. You should be able to judge relative positions as the card is inserted. Pressure required should increase a little as the surfaces get roughened up, but not that much.
And look at the traces on the card, they should be the full width of the tab, to the bevel. Then there is the possibility that the card has a bad solder joint somewhere that is forced into contact with the pressure. But finding one of those is a bear.
And if none of this helps, then I'm history. I'm out of ideas. [sig]
Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
