I just noticed. I have an S8300 setup with digital, analog and ip hardphones administered to it. All phones except the ip phones (4612) saved their volume setting after I changed and hung up. Why can't the ip phones remember the volume settings? Are there any way (adjustments in definity/ASA) around it?

This can be fixed with the "change terminal-parameters" command, but only by Avaya has access to the screen. You may be able to call and ask them to change the Terminal Parameters for 4600 series phones so that they retain the settings between calls.

I was just wondering... will updating the firmware help?

So, will that cost me if I asked Avaya to change it?

Will it cost you? Well, Someone at Avaya will have to press a key on thier keyboard to help you and the whole process will take at least one whole minute minute, so Avaya will obviously have to charge you about$125.

I don't actually know if there will be a charge, there should not be since this does not require a change to the license file, and it not something that a customer can do on their own, but who knows! If you have a good relationsip with any of your local service techs, you might get them to do it for you.

Ok, so that means I have to setup a modem on the S8300 for dialup.

A modem should have been installed with your S8300 in one of the USB ports.
Logins of 'craft' or higher can do it. I'm not sure if the biz partner 'dadmin' login has the permission, but I would think so.
And by the way, it is as simple as IPSI said. 'Cha terminal-p 6400', set 'Custom' to 'y', then change the 'IP Phone' entry to the same as the '6400' entry, 'retain.....', and as always...'sa t'.

Thanks for all the help! I'll be working on it real soon...

Just one question: why does Avaya has the sole rights to access this form if it's only for changing simple things on IP phones? Are there any reasons behind it?

Because AVAYA makes stupid decisions on things that the end-user should have access too...

Its AVAYA, plain and simple...

Same reason TTI was thought to be a money feature. Also, AT&T/Lucent techs never told customers about TTI because they thought it was job security.
