I just got a call from a client saying that they're having lots of trouble with their lines. They had a tech from the telco come out and he says that one of the lines is providing too much voltage and so there must be a problem with the phone system, (MICS and NAM, not sure of s/w versions but I don't think it matters in this case.) This sounds like pure BS to me. Can anyone tell me if the ksu sends out much (if any) voltage and how it would be produced.

Never heard on Trunk ports giving, only receiving.

I am sure voltage can very from carrier.
Guesstimate:
Idle 48 volts
Ringing 90 volts
Call duration 1 volt

Best to go to site and diconnect the line and test your trunk on and off hook in case something wrong with KSU.

Thanks curlycord for the info. I think I'm just faced with an inexperienced telco tech who doesn't know what to do about the excess voltage so he's just trying to pass the buck. They do it all the time. Thanx again.

on a did trunk the cpe device does provide the voltage.

thanx for the info guys.
