Anyone encounter problems with lousy IP phone quality when using a sonicwall VPN for voice and data? Looking for sugestions as to improve the quaility of the voice, I had tried to priortize some of the traffic over the vpn by setting various rules, but it does not seem to work.

I currently have the vpn set up between a Tele3 and a Tele3sp, the phones (NEC Aspire S, 2 analog/digital systems connected w/ip cards, and two IP phones) work pretty good when no other activity is happeining but when a file gets accessed, everything gets shot.

Is it possible to make this work?
Would it also be possible to set up a second vpn tunnel and have one for data and one for voice?

VOIP sucks if it doesn't have enough bandwidth. You will get echo sounds, etc if you don't have enough. Either increase bandwidth or check all the pcs and make sure there is no spyware on them. Make sure no one is downloading a lot of large files. Double the check the prioritization rules with in bound outbound.

If you just want the thing to plain work, get a completely separate internet connection for voice.

I have already increased my bandwith, its up to 1.5m down and 350k up, guarenteed. My last choice would be to go with a second connection seeing as how we are a really small office, and that would not be cost effective. With the increaced bandwith we did see improvements however when a file downloads the quality blows. I have a new '2 wire router' with QoS supposedly built in, so I am going to see if this works. I really don't think that this is a bandwith issue as much as it is a data prioritization one.

Are there any configs that REALLY work to help out with filtering and giving the telephones top priority?

I have a voip, at a remote client, sound and connection problems were previlent until a voip interface was install before the sonic router.

What do you mean an VoIP interface? Is that the same as QoS filter?
