I have a customer with 8 site SCN all up to date 3.2.53. They are networked over a COX private network. the routers are all cisco and the data tech has turned on all the QOS settings and i have Changed everything i can in the IPO but the Quality is really bad. Has anyone had any experiance with this COX cable product and had any luck making it work. The Ping times are good and local calls on the LAN are good. They are all 2mg pipes at each remote and 7mg at the main location.

Any insight is very appreciated.

One of my observations:

Many "network-only" guys are very unexperienced in working with QoS. We have just had a case, also with Cisco equipment involved, where the Cisco-guys had major problems in getting the QoS working properly.

We prefer equipment where we can monitor the routers, and thereby verify that the QoS is working properly.

I agree with you. The data guys just dont like to listen to me. I told them how we wanted it then of course they have a "BETTER WAY" which now has put me in the hotseat because they say it is all set on their end. THanks.

As we all know IP Office uses the Diffserv TOS bits for prioritizing voice packets.
If you want to know if the network is QoS enabled then you need special software but there is a quick way to do a test.
With Widows XP / 2003 you can do a ping using QoS for the ping.
Do a ping without QoS and do a ping with QoS, if the outcome differs then QoS is enabled otherwise it is not and then you need the special software ( sniffer like Network Instruments Observer ).
Before you can ping with QoS there must be some registry settings changed, details can be found here :
Furthermore the TOS bits must be equal to th IPO settings, this can be done with gpedit.msc as described in the PhoneManager softphone installation manual. As usual the Windows TOS settings are not set as described in the RFC documents.
