My wife's PC is a Dell with Win2K - less than 1 yr old. The problem: when she play's back a voice message left on her answering machine software, the sound is v-e-r-y scratchy.

First thought was the sound card, but it plays music CD's beautifully. Dell sent another modem but that didn't work either. Then I pulled the drivers out and reinstalled them - still no change! I it isn't the software - it's running on 2 other machines without a problem.

This is driving me nuts! Anybody got any ideas?

Could it be the phone line going to that particular computer?

Not the phone line - had it checked when it all started. This same software worked with her previous PC and voice modem.

Got me stumped!

The problem is probably interference from the other parts of the computer. Try to isolate the modem from any fans, power cords, the video card, etc.

This is the biggest problem with computers and sound. There are a lot of stray signals flying around.

You can also put a filter on the phone line itself. Its a few dollars at Radio Shack.
