All,

I've just installed a new fax and have the choice of setting up an existing DDI as a fax/phone line through VM pro or using a separate DDI. I would be interested in experiences of how reliable the F menu option is i.e. does it grab calls that are actually voice calls or miss fax calls sometimes?

Thanks

Andrew

Easiest is to set up DDI dedicated to fax. This way if the user actually answers the call, they won't need to transfer.

Mike,

Thanks for your response, especially so quickly. Maybe I didn't explain very well. My plan is to point the DDI at a menu which sends the faxes to the fax machine automatically and leaves the voice calls to go through to an agent or use a separate DDI for the fax.

Thanks

Andrew

We've found the menu function to be very reliable, so long as the caller's fax machine sends a CNG tone. Some older machines and some fax modems don't. Also, every so often a caller will use handset on fax machine and wait for far end machine to answer before pressing START. Why folks do this? No idea. But it wouldn't get past your menu. If you have spare DDI, I'd use it. Here a DDI has a cost of $0.25/mo approximate) - so it's a no-brainer.

Mike,

You confirmed my thoughts. Thanks for taking the time. I'll go with a separate DDI.

Thanks

I have set many systems using the F for fax and have never had a problem.
