I've got two spreadsheets - The first is copied from an Access table and it contains a filed called ID along with a bunch of other data.

The secound is from another source and I'm informaed that it was made using only Excel.

I'm trying to get some data from the secound sheet into the virst using a vlookup based on the ID field which is common to both sheets.

Although the secound sheet contains many records which are also in the first sheet - I'm getting a #N/A return - which means no value....

Does anybody know what Bill Gates is playing at??? (Sorry Bill it's been a frustrating afternoon)

ho hum. [sarcasm] never seen this'n before ;-) [/sarcasm]numerical data from external applicaitons almost always converts to text when copied to excel and therein lies your problem. You have one set of numbers and another set of text that LOOKS like numbers
To convert the access IDs to actual numbers, enter a 1 in a blank cell
copy it
select all the IDs
goto Edit>Pastespecial and choose Values and MULTIPLY
this should convert your text to numbers and the vlookup should work

ps - never apologise to $Bill ;-)
