VLDB Utilities - correct running order? 1

I'm experiencing some database corruption (ARCServe 2000, win2k) at the moment and ran dbfix to correct the problems. Unfortunately this did not do the trick and I am now looking at the keybuild and dchain utils. However, I'm not quite certain which order they should be run in. In the FAQ on this forum it is mentioned to run "dchain", then "keybuild". On the CA website it is mentioned that "keybuild" should always be run in conjunction with "dbdefrag". Anyone know for certain which order to run these utilities in?

For the best fix, dchain and then keybuild.

A keybuild results in a defragmentation and removal of empty space of the database, so I have no idea why it would be recommended to run a keybuild along with a defrag.

I wrote those faqs from data pulled right from the Velocis manuals.

Run the utilites a few times if need be. Check the log after and look for any errors and inconsistancies. Each time you run the utils the # of those should go down. If they don't, or if you just don't want to put the time in just wack them and merge in whatever you need.

One other note, the more often the utils are run the less time it will take. Also the larger it gets the slow they will work. I'm just making up the number to show what I mean. 100mb database processes 1000 records a second and a 1gb database processess 700 records a second. Again there is no reality in those numbers, it is just to explain that the larger it gets the slower those utils will work.

If you have MS SQL in house ck the the DB Admin to see if the ARCserve DB can be added to it and then your db problems are gone.
