Our phone system has reached its capacity. The short term solution: start adding ip phones. Additional data lines will not be run for the new ip phones and they will share the pc's port.

From this idea a plan has developed to segment 150 computers and 3 servers into departmental subnets with one subnet for the servers. This means 15 to 25 pc's for each subnet.

5 - Dell-3348, 48 port, switches will be used for the vlans.

Somebody tell me....Is this a stupid idea?

for ease of management, If you have switched network creating three vlans will more than suffice one for pc's one for server and one for voice traffic. Unless you have security concerns or predict huge growth in the veryshort term this should suffice..

Is it possible to segment voice traffic when phone/pc share data port?
