I have a domain driven network using Windows XP Pro. Just purchased new Dell laptop with Vista Business and my tech guy says "Vista won't work". I have no clue what this means or how this is possible. I guess I need to know which version of Vista is closest to XP Pro and how can I respond to this guy?

I have a Windows 2000 server for file sharing and mail exchange. Could this be a problem?

thanks.

Only Vista Business, Enterprise, & Ultimate can join a domain; the Home versions can not.

Were you ever able to get this to work. I have a laptop with Vista business on it as well and I cannot get it to join my Windows Server 2003 domain. Comes up and gives me some kind of DNS error which states:

An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain.

Doesn't seem right as all of my XP systems joined the domain without a hitch. Anyone know a solution?

Does experimenting with something like this make any difference?

"Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click System and Maintenance
Click Administrative Tools
Double-Click Local Security Policy
In the left pane, click the triangle next to Local Policy
In the left pane, click Security Options
In the right pane near the bottom, double-click "Network security: LAN manager authentication level"
Click the drop-down box, and click "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
Click OK"

Revert back to NTLMv2 Only if unsuccessful
