If I had to bet on it, I'd guess that it will be part of next Tuesday's updates.

In fact, no longer a guess. From the horses mouth: next patch Tuesday the plan is for SP1 (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) to be made available at the Microsoft download centre and an OPTION on Windows Update site. If Windows Update detects that you have one of the drivers that are known to be problematic, SP1 will not be offered (but you can still download it manually if you insist).

In mid-April SP1 will be a regular Windows Update and will download and install automatically for users who have set Update to run automatically.

As tf1 mentioned, it won't show up on Windows Update until mid-April.

There's a load of Office updates this week. Looks like the optional SP1 will be next week then. (Have you actually manually connected to Windows Update to make sure it isn't listed under optional installs: I can't do this myself as I already have an install of Vista SP1, so it won't show up for me anyway?) Also, remember that Redmond is 8 hours behind us.

I looked on Update and on the Downloads pages. There is a recent 'whats in it' document but no SP1 download that I can see.

Strange because on another thread in the PC Hardware, General Discussions section under Thread "Worth the CPU Upgrade" it says that someone has just tried using the SP1 update but it reported his Vista as a pirate copy!

Several updates were pushed to my laptop last night from Microsoft, and Vista is the only MS software on the machine. (I did a clean install two weeks ago and hardly anything is installed.) I don't think it was substantial enough to be the entire SP, maybe just bum driver replacements.

I upgrade my Vista Home Prem. laptop on 3/8/08. I am fighting a cold and couldn't sleep. Turned on the laptop and the SP was waiting to install. Took about 45 minutes and said there were 3 files that downloaded and installed. You can NOT use your pc during the install. All seems to have gone ok. Haven't noticed any problems or issues.

I'm still not seeing SP1, but some of the articles seem to say that its just a complete set of all the upgrades released so far.

This doesnt seem to be clear?

Mine is Vista Home premium in the UK, so there shouldn't be any problem with the language drivers.
and all the rolling updates have been applied

I installed it. Now i can choose which drive to defrag....yeah! woopie! Thanks microsoft, I couldnt live without that. Now can you make my video card compatable????

Lets get this clear.
If you follow BadBigBens link this is to the (huge) stand alone copy of SP1.
There is a message in Bold type..
DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER a smaller more appropriate download is available on Windows update.

Go to the downloads site, filter downloads for Windows/Vista and sort by date.
You will see the 5 Language issue of SP1 as above, released on Tuesday.
There are no other SP1 versions released yet.
That is to say the ones on Windows update, which would also appear in this list in my experience.

I think its a big risk to apply the standalone update to a computer that doesnt see any update on 'Windows Update'.

Yep, you are right, it is HUGE the x64 is some 726mb and the x86 is only 434mb...

you may be also right about the second statement... if your PC does not see SP1 update on the Windows Update, it could be just the fact that you already have it installed or you do not have the prerequisites covered for it to install...

though I would say that the above links, will cover a fresh install, as it is the same version that got shipped to all the System Builders out there...
