I would like to change the sound when Windows Vista starts. However, there is no option to do so in the sound menu. There is on for "exit windows" but none for "start windows". There is one titled, "system Start" but that does not correspond to anything I know of. Does anyone know how to make Vista make the sound of one's choice when it starts?

I don't know whether you can change the sound, it might be hard coded into a specific .dll and not a specific .wav file?. At least you can uncheck the box to stop it playing.

Control Panel/ Personalization/ Sounds /Play Windows Startup sound.

I found the answer to my own question. What was referred to as "Start Windows" in XP is now called "Windows Logon" in Vista.
