i have a vista computer in a workgroup with 3 xp computers and 4 windows 2000 computers. the vista pc does not see the other computers on the network, but they see the vista pc. turned firewall and spyware pro off.

Hi,

1. Can the W2k PC's be found by searching for them by name across the LAN?

2. If you ping one of the W2k's from the Vista do you get a response?

3. And what about the other way round?

Sorry about the list.

Sounds like you need to do something like the following (I've had both Vista pc's and XP pc's in the same work group without any problems).

1) Do a ipconfig /release on all pc's (IF your using DHCP assigned IP's)

2) Shut down all pc, and any/all routers. Restart the router(s), let them full initialize.

3) Reboot your pc's. This should assign an IP address to each pc.

4) Make sure each pc is in the same workgroup (make sure the workgroup name is spelled excatly on each pc).

There are instance where File sharing isn't turned on by default..

In the Start Menu - right-click Network and goto Properties ... make sure file sharing, and Network Discovery are switched on...

Check the chipsets on the XP and W2000 PC's, if they are nVidia then you may need to purchase NIC cards instead of the onboard NICs...
