Anyone come across slow print time for vista 64bit and usb attached HP LJ 1006 printer? 2 pcs with 64 bit both have same model printer, both have same problem. Takes about 2 mins for any format doc to print to.
Did the usual remove/readd and such.
Either printer works fine on 32 bit vista.
The 64 bits can print to network printers with no delay.

Ideas? Found nothing of worth on HP site or in my vista 64 bit searches.

Are you using the drivers and software that came with the installation disc? Are you positive that you are installing the correct 64-bit driver? Here is a link to the 64-bit "basic" driver for this printer. Download and try installing the "basic" driver and see if there is any difference in performance.

Member "Wolluf" linked to this site (a different model printer with similar problems), it turned out to be caused by some monitoring .dll that was a problem. The debugging information might help you solve your problem however?

Thats one of the drivers Ive tried.
I think its just a 64-bit buggy that proly wont ever be addressed. Ive found alot of links and such with users using different printers experiencing the same troubles.
One fix someone tried was to copy out their prefetch folder. I may try this.

Are they using PCL5 or 6 drivers? On the spooler have you configured the printer to spool the entire job or start printing straight away?

One thing with printing PDF documents, you have an option of printing as text or as an image, what happens is that the image print job obviously takes longer to do than the text one. Are your jobs trying anything similar (something funky in the properties of the print job)?

Simon

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

On the surface, just normal jobs - PDF, word, email, etc.
Not sure on the pcl, my experinece says pcl 5 works better, Ill check.

Ill keep an update going...
