I am the type of person who likes to dream about what is to come. I have great curiosity as to what other people want to see in JavaScript in the future.

Here are some of my ideas:

The ability to create new tags and classes of objects (a bit like XML, but with special properties that are to be manipulated with the JavaScript language).

Integration between JavaScript, XML, and HTML.

Being able to make functions Public if you want them to be (so that it is possible for any variables defined in the function are defined as global variables). The current is that all functions are Private (but it's implicit).

Greater compatibility between the major browsers (very wishy).

WebTV access to JavaScript (from what I know, WebTV and other such gadgets cannot access JavaScript or Java).

Networking capabilities (also very wishy).

Ability do define classes of variables...I.E. string/integer/single-precision...as well as default switching if you don't specify. Would make it a little more programmer-friendly.

Ability to window.anotherwindow.document.writeln() ability for writing JavaScriptlets into daughter windows would be an EXCELLENT advantage!!
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller. Contact me if you think you've got one that I don't :)

Some type of "assembly" language for the browser so a programmer can virtually reprogram a browser according to the web site's theme or content.
REH
hawkdogg@crosswinds.net
<a href= by Linux
Learn Linux and Leave out the Windows :)

There is only one thing that I can wish for:

better debugging/error checking.
