Visio Unique Field Error

I have a spreadsheet in which I keep a unique id for a job, and a unique id for that job's manager. I have entered these into Visio.

Some jobs have no occupant, so in a column for the occupant's name the word VACANT is entered.

Visio is complaining that the word VACANT is not unique - but I haven't said it is or should be.

Does anyone have any ideas?
