Virus: Any new instance of explorer closes the already opened instance

help me out of it. Any new instance of explorer closes the already opened instance. So I only can have one instance of the explorer at a time.

OMG, this is the problem from hell. I think I spent like 2 weeks trying to fix this on my girlfriend's laptop. Start here:

Failing that, try to fix IE

or reinstall IE, in a DOS window, type (note a space after "sfc"):

sfc /scannow

Check any options under Control Panel/ Folder Options/ General (Browse Folders).

"Open each folder in its own window".

Specifies that the contents of each folder open in a new window. The previous folder content still appears in a different window, so you can switch between the windows.

Hopefully you wont need this second link.
