Virtual Volumes and TSM DB restoration

Guys!!

Does any body know how to restore TSM DB on target server using virtual volumes.

Actually I am preparing TSM DR infra for my compnay. I have implemented TSM server at DR machine and setup virtual volumes relationship correctly between source server and target server ( server at main site & server at Dr site).

Using that virtual volumes configuration , i am able to take full TSM DB backup on source server ( which goes to disk based volumes at TSM DR Server).

My volume history and dev config ( latest ) are also being copied from Live AIX server to DR AIX server.

I stopped my DR TSM Server and tried to restore TSM DB of Main Server , it could not be and gave following errors

Why it is saying that no resource is available for restoration ???

What am i missing in restrartion from TSM DR.... Please advice.. Is it correct procedure for restroring TSM DB using virtual volumes

Hi Polani

Most likely is authentication failure between TSM servers. What does the activity log on the DR TSM server show?

Infact authentication failure should not be an issue as i was able to take TSM DB backup from TSM main Server to TSM DR server without any failure.

However , please clarify how i can check activity log at TSM DR Server ( as it was stoped before attepmt to store TSM DB onto it )

Please clarify... I think that i am wrong in understanding in recovery procedure of TSM using virtual volumes concept... but issue is that there is no documentation available on the subject... All documents talk about backup methods... not recovery methods

Hi

OK - suppose you have 2 TSM instances, TSM-A & TSM-B.

You perform TSM DB backups of TSM-B to virtual volumes stored on TSM-A.

At some point, you want to restore TSM-B using the virtual volumes stored on TSM-A. Your restore fails, because of a condition described in this error:

ANR1401W Mount request denied for volume TSMDR.DBB.162725249 - mount failed

The error is issued by the restore process for TSM-B.

If you check the TSM server activity log for the instance TSM-A, you will be able to confirm whether or not TSM-B made a connection to TSM-A for the purpose of requesting access to the virtual volume containing the database backup. My guess is that, at the time TSM-B issued the ANR1401W message, you will see a corresponding message in the activity log for TSM-A.
